Hair today, Gone tomorrow

Hi everyone! I am sorry it has been so long since I updated the hair blog here but we have spent the last 12 days in Colorado and there really has not been much time to blog. We are no strangers to Denver, much of my husband's family lives here. You might wonder how this trip could possibly relate to the hair blog.

Well, I have to tell you, my hair definitely behaves better out here than in Florida because of the change in humidity. It definitely stays straighter longer and behaves better. I don't know if it is because I am using different shampoo and conditioner out here but it definitely looks shinier to me.

But I am in need of a color touch-up. Don't know when I will find time to do that. Hope there is a beauty school here that I can go to.

How about you? Tell me about your hair experiences. Did you notice a change in your hair --good or bad-- when traveling? Did you do anything different while you were away?  Thanks for sharing.

What price for beauty?

I am always looking for stories that can relate to this blog. Huff Post posted this today and I thought how appropriate and perfect for my hair blog. This is an example of the type of information I hope to provide my readers and that readers will share with us. The dangers of certain treatments and processes. Has something like this ever happened to you? I know I have a friend who recently tried keratin.  I would love to be able to try out all these new treatments and blog about the experiences for you here but truth is, I just don't have the money right now. So please share your experiences here so we can educate and help others. The article I saw follows in the link:

Save your hair!

As someone who knows her hair looks better the day AFTER it has been washed and looks even better when I don't wash it for a few days, I had to post this article I saw today. I agree with most of it. But I can;t wait as long as this writer in between washes because my hair gets limpy and oily.

Let me know what you think? Have you tried or would you try dry shampoo? How much are you willing to spend?

Springy, ScHairy photos

Welcome to April! Spring has sprung and with it the heat and humidity. And I am in Florida! Today it was 90-plus degrees here. So with that in mind, I pose this question to you: How does the humidity affect your hair, if at all? Mine gets frizzier than normal.

Not alone
A LONG time ago I met actor Mario Lopez's mom, Elvia, at a home show event in Miami where Mario was signing autographs. he was still a minor at the time so she had to accompany him. I asked her how she liked Florida. She said it was great but the humidity was ruining her hair. And this is a Hispanic woman from San Diego, nonetheless. If it can happen to her, it can happen to any of us.
STATE of mind?
I wonder if my hair would behave better if I lived somewhere else. I have spent some time in Denver and my hair did seem easier to tame when I was there. But for someone who has lived in Florida her whole life. I don't have many experiences to compare it to. So how about you? Share your hair story.

The photo above is of me, after my hair has been flat ironed at a professional salon. It was very time consuming but it is how I wished my hair looked all the time. It never looks this straight no matter how much I flat-iron it myself. We always want what we don't have. I need to learn to embrace my natural style because I know that too can be beautiful.

Welcome!

Welcome to I LOVE my "Hairitage". My name is Lisa and this blog has been an idea of mine for a long time. I wanted a place where minority men and women, and anyone else, could come to share their hair stories.

My "Hairitage" is Puerto Rican. As a little girl I always wanted shiny, straight hair. Instead I have frizzy, curly hair.
Those of us who are minorities face special challenges in trying to tame our hair. This blog is a place to get advice, share stories, and just plain vent.

I want to know what products worked for you and which ones didn't. Which ones you liked and which ones you hated. I am hoping in the future we will have coupons for products and advice from the manufacturers right here on the site.

So tell us a little about yourself. If you don't know where to start: Where your from, what your heritage is, and any grooming challenges you have faced.

I know that you love your Hairitage too!
Thanks for reading!
